Collection Conversations Animation Project

The Dulwich Picture Gallery are looking for community groups to come and have a conversation with them at the Gallery to discuss the theme of Journeys.

The Dulwich Picture Gallery are looking for community groups to come and have a conversation with them at the Gallery to discuss the theme of Journeys.

Each group will get to choose a painting from the gallery Collection and take part in a facilitated conversation workshop where they will get to share their opinions, stories, and impressions on the chosen painting, looking at the theme of journeys, migration, art and identity.

The conversations will be transcribed and collected, and stories shared by all the groups will be used to create an animation film which will go on display at the Gallery and in community settings in 2020.

The film will form part of the Journeys Project at the Gallery which will bring together paintings in our Collection by artists who were from countries outside the United Kingdom with a new community co-curated display.

What do you need to do?

No experience or knowledge of the Gallery or Collection is required- just a willingness to take part in a conversation and have a friendly chat!

The gallery are also looking for community groups who may have personal connections to or lived experience of migration.

Participating groups will each get a copy of the animation and will be invited to the launch of the film.

If you would like further information or would like to book on a Collection Conversation workshop please email
